Myotherapy

A lot of people ask me – “What is the difference between Myotherapy and Massage?” I like to think that Myotherapy takes everything we learn as Massage Therapists to the next level.

Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal conditions, which may cause muscular dysfunction and pain, affecting movement and mobility.  This means we look at what is wrong, we assess what may be causing the problem, and we use our knowledge of the body and treatment to try and alleviate the pain or problem. We utilise a range of treatment techniques to restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structures – muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia.

A Myotherapy consultation will typically commence with thorough history taking followed by various muscle, joint and neurological testing.  Combined with manual palpation of muscles and joints, a Myotherapist aims to identify the cause of one’s pain to ensure quick, effective and long lasting results.

Myotherapists employ various soft tissue manipulation techniques, together with other modalities such as: trigger point therapy, dry needling, deep tissue massage, passive/active muscle stretching and corrective or rehabilitative exercises.

Most people seek Myotherapy treatment when suffering from long term aches and pains, though some clients will receive treatment to prevent injury.

Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage is a treatment that manipulates the soft tissues of the body for a specific therapeutic effect. A Massage Therapist will assist in creating conditions for the body’s return to normal health after injury or with muscular-skeletal disorders.

Remedial Massage is a deep tissue massage that uses muscle manipulation techniques and movements according to the client’s needs and response. This leads to the healing process, aiding soft tissues in repairing, restoring functional integrity and adapting back to health. It can also be used for relaxation and general well-being.

It is often used to treat chronic muscular-skeletal imbalances, strains, and sprains. It assists with speeding up recovery and encourages more complete healing after injury.

Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a treatment process created by Tom Bowen, who lived and practiced in Geelong, Victoria. It is based on his recognition that the underlying cause or source of many musculoskeletal, neurological, neuromuscular and other health or pain problems could be found in the soft tissue or fascia. Fascia is a specific type of connective tissue that forms a webbing surrounding every tissue in the body.

Bowen Therapy, through specific soft tissue or fascial release and integration techniques, stimulates specific receptors that enable the body to correct its own dysfunctions and restore homeostasis (balance) on a holistic level. Through treating the cause rather than the symptoms, Bowen Therapy has consistently shown it can have profound and permanent healing and pain relief outcomes.

A Bowen Therapy session typically involves gentle rolling motions along or over the muscles, tendons and fascia.

Corporate Massage

Are you a local business wanting to bring health and well-being into your workplace? Are you planning an event or convention?

Consider workplace massage as a way to show your clients or employees that you care about them.

With employees often falling sick or away on workplace injuries, massage is a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle and safer work environment.

When stress levels are high, this can often have a negative impact on the work place and often the poorest decisions are made when workplace morale is low. Massage can help!

Workplace or corporate massage can be provided at the desk or with a massage table, while still remaining fully clothed and within your work environment or event.
